Connecting Alumni During COVID

CUNY John Jay

Introduction / Summary

CUNY John Jay is one of the leading Criminal Justice schools in the U.S. It’s a public university located in New York City that has been around since 1964. CUNY John Jay prides themselves on their Alumni Association that supports their undergraduate and graduate alumni.

The Challenge

CUNY JJ hosts their Alumni Reunion to bring together their alumni for a night of reconnecting and networking. COVID-19 made it harder to hold their alumni reunion in-person due to safety concerns. In 2020 they had to postpone their reunion until 2021, they didn’t want to cancel or postpone it again for 2021.

The Solution

Team Lucin teamed up with CUNY John Jay again to prevent them from postponing their Alumni Reunion any longer. So together we created a Virtual Alumni Reunion that allowed alumni to reconnect with their graduating classmates. The Alumni Reunion also honored special alumni and faculty that had made a difference in the John Jay community. The reunion consisted of two parts. The first part was a pre-recorded show that celebrated the honorees, staff, and alumni. After the pre-recorded event the attendees were gathered in Zoom to connect and network.

Results

The Virtual Reunion was enjoyed by all the attendees! Converting the event to a virtual platform was a great way to gather alumni and staff because it was easily accessible to everyone anywhere. The honorees of the night were also grateful for the opportunity to be showcased during the night. All the marketing material and sizzles promoting the event were also a hit.
